Nā Woela — Vowels

Hawaiian has five vowels: a, e, i, o, u.

  • a as in father
  • e as in bet
  • i as in machine
  • o as in sole
  • u as in rule

Every vowel is pronounced. In aloha you say each vowel: a-lo-ha.

Practice: aloha, mahalo, keiki (child), kumu (teacher).
