Wayfinding

Polynesian navigators crossed thousands of miles of open ocean without instruments, reading stars, swells, winds, clouds and birds.

In 1976 the voyaging canoe Hōkūleʻa sailed from Hawaiʻi to Tahiti using traditional navigation, guided by Mau Piailug of Satawal. The voyage helped spark a revival of wayfinding.
