Settlement of the Islands

Voyagers from central and eastern Polynesia settled Hawaiʻi. Estimates of first settlement vary; recent radiocarbon studies point to roughly 1000–1200 CE, while older estimates were earlier.

Settlers brought canoe plants such as kalo (taro), ʻulu (breadfruit) and niu (coconut).
