Ka a me Ke — The Articles

Hawaiian has two forms of the: ka and ke.

Use ke before words that start with k, e, a, o (the KEAO rule), and before some words starting with ʻokina. Use ka everywhere else.

• ke kumu — the teacher
• ka wahine — the woman

The plural marker nā replaces the article: nā kumu — the teachers.
